Weight assisted sash windows

Traditionally timber box sash windows were hung on a cord & weights system. Originally these weights would be made using cast iron, but new sash windows feature steel and lead options to accommodate the extra weight of the double glazed units. Although a costlier option, this is the most reliable option available still today.

Spring assisted sash windows

Using a spiral balance opening mechanism offers a clean modern appearance to a timber sash window. Suitable for brickwork openings without the space for a full sized 90mm box. A spiral balance operates by a spring with tension matching the weight of the sash, concealed in tubes that are then screwed to the top of the frame near to where a pulley wheel would be.

Whilst Kensington Sash carry out replacement works on Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian period properties of all sizes, our surveyors will always advise to restore where achievable. We are expert historic window refurbishment contractors, particularly focusing on timber sash and casement windows.

In doing so, we breathe new life into the cities beloved historic buildings and preserve the heritage of the properties.
